An unusual Russian mantel clock in Louis XIVth style, bronze carcase completely veneered in Siberian malachite. Although using a French 8 day silk suspension bell striking movement the construction of this clock is unlike English or French construction and tends to indicate together with a Russian trade label below the movement that it was actually made in Russia. This very heavy clock is heavily engineered and altogether beautifully made and with no expense spared. Malachite is used on every surface, even beneath the clock. The dial is lovely and has annular numerals and fine gilt bronze hands in the shape of eagle owl feathers. The visible pendulum bob is of leaf shape and in superbly cast ormolu. The clock is surmounted by a gilt bronze Siberian Eagle owl, an important Russian mythical icon. A Magnificent clock in outstanding condition. Circa 1860. 11 inches high by 7 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep ( 27.5 cms by 17.5 cms by 8.75 cms).
