This superb Blue John casket was almost certainly made in the second half of the 19th century from Blue John mined in the 18th century. The bronze frame has small bun feet and engraving to the corners. The Blue John however is cut from a single nodule, almost certainly mined in the 18th century as Blue John of this fabulous colour and size was not readily available in the 19th century. 7.5 inches wide by 4 inches deep and 4 inches tall (18.75 cms by 10 cms by 10 cms) .
