A late 18th century French ormolu mounted white marble urn shaped mantel clock. Having a ball finial and ormolu finials above a reeded and tapered underside with a turned socle and stepped black marble base all upon four bun feet.
The fine white convex enamel dial surrounded by a fine ormolu beze is signed Cleret a Oreans and having fine gilt hands. The 8 day movement with flattened plates striking the hours and halves on a bell by means of a countwheel and regulated by a silk suspended pendulum. Pierre Cleret is known to have been working in Orleans 1773-94, while Claude Cleret was known to have been in Orleans in 1782. 20 inches tall ( 49 cms).
