A good German enamel and gilt bronze singing bird box. Of excellent quality the painting of the enamels is very fine, especially of the panels around the sides. The side panels are decorated with blue guilloche enamel, hatched guilloche enamel and vertical blocks bordered with white enamel and gilt bronze. The lid is fully enamelled with a scene of young women in a romantic setting. On sliding the operating lever the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving ivory beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. 4 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep and 2 inches high ( 10 cms by 6.25 cms by 5 cms).
