A fine quality French Louis XVIth late 18th century white carrera marble and original ormolu mantel clock. Set upon a D-ended base with ormolu feet, the clock itself is held between two marble columns with ormolu mounts top and bottom. A chinnoisserie influence is detectable in the fine ormolu canopy that rises over the clock from the two columns. The dial of the clock is of convex white enamel and the time is told by the two gilt bronze hands of typical form. The winding holes are asymetrical which is pleasing as this configuration is only found on French clocks of this specific period. Circa 1785. 19 inches high by 11 inches wide and 4.25 inches deep ( 47.5 cms by 27.5 cms by 10.6 cms).
