A fine rectangular silver box with canted corners, profusely cast and engraved all over and with fine hand painted enamelling to the lid. The lid well cast and engraved in the rococco style with urns and flowers, the outer border beautifully enamelled in the form of lapis lazuli. Within this a fine handpainted enamel scene of two young women in a verdant landscape with trees and fountain. The sides have finely cast and chased leaf decoration and the underneath of the box deep casting of urn and floral decoration within a geometric border. The inside is plain silver gilt. Box has silver mark 800. Probably German. Circa 1890. 3 inches square by 0.3 inches high ( 7.5 cms square by 1 cm high).
