French Empire antique clock by Ledieur in marble, patinated bronze and ormolu.
A fine quality French Empire clock by the eminent maker Ledieur, signed both on the dial and on the backplate of the movement. Set on flat bun feet the antique marble vert base rises to a rectangular patinated bronze base mounted to the front and sides with fine applied ormolu mounts. A well modelled figure of cupid in patinated bronze stands to one side of the clock with his bow in one hand and leaning on a bowl of fruit and flowers in the finest ormolu. Around the highly decorative bezel and in the four spandrel corners are fine ormolu mounts of butterflies, iconic emblems of the human soul. The fine white enamel convex dial is signed Ledieur a Paris and the hands are finely finished cast ormolu. The movement is an 8 day bell striking silk suspended movement and is also engraved Ledieur on the backplate of the movement. Circa 1812. 17.5 inches high by 12.75 inches wide by 5 inches deep (43.75 cms by 31.875 cms by 12.5 cms)
