A fabulous quality late 19th century English lancet shaped buolle mantel clock. The simple lines of the clock allow the exceptional quality of the boulle work to be shown to best advantage. ( Boulle work is the laying on of layers of tortoiseshell and cut brass parti and contra parti first used by Andre Boulle in the 17th century). Often used in France it became very popular in late 19th century England. This boulle clock is in wonderful condition with the tortoiseshell bright and not lifted nor with damage to the brasswork. Set upon bracket feet with brass and rosewood mouldings. Back of clock veneeered with rosewood. White enamel dial with blued steel hands. 8 day timepiece movement with lever escapement. Circa 1890. 9.5 inches high by 7.25 inches wide by 4 inches deep ( 23.75 cms by 18 cms by 10 cms).
