A very fine quality English blond tortoiseshell dome topped mantel clock of the Edwardian period. Ivory Stringing to front. Set upon four bun feet the clock has a stepped base and is of domed form. The tortoiseshell veneers which have been applied to all visible sides of the clock including the back are of a beautifully figured blond colour. The clear white enamel dial is set under convex glass within a brass bezel. The dial has both Roman and Arabic numerals and blued steel hands. The eight day movement is behind a glazed and hinged bezel and is wound and the hands set from behind. This gives a dial uninterupted by winding holes. The movement is French and the timekeeping is controlled by the original cylinder escapement, stamped with the lion. This is the symbol of a fine and prolific French carriage clock maker by the name of Albert Villon of Saint Nicholas, France, who established his shop in 1867 and who supplied the movement. English circa 1905. 8.25 inches high by 5.25 inches wide by 3 .25 inches deep
