A fine and unusual Italian Grand Tour patinated bronze inkwell. The inkwell is in the form of three bulls holding up the body of the inkwell each head and forequarter emerging from the inkwell itself. Between the heads of each bull is a fine mask of Pan. The lid of the inkpot is in the form of a child riding a goat. The whole standing upon three bulls legs in turn on a stepped, circular rouge and black marble base. The casting and finishing of this bronze is very fine indeed and the extent of the bronziers finishing work can be seen on the bull's bodies and on the goat. Italian circa 1860.
