A fine grand tour Egyptian revival inkwell in a very stylised form. Set on a rectangular base decorated with "Egyptian" inspired motifs a female figure sits with her legs drawn up so that she is hugging her knees. The highly stylised decoration to her hair and clothes could almost be of the Art Deco period or a piece inspired by Eric Gill. Superb hinge and altogether beautifully made. Probably late English Regency period or George IV. Fine colour and entirely original patination. 5.5 inches high by 4.5 inches wide by 2.75 inches deep ( 13.75 cms by 11.25 cms by 6.9 cms ).
