French antique ormolu musical two train mantel clock. The movement within an arched case decorated with stylised honeysuckle and foliate borders over a relief rectangular panel of Homer with a young child. This is from an engraving of Raphael-Urbain Massard taken from the "L'Homere" of Baron Francois Gerard presented at the Salon of 1814. Massard engraving was exhibited at the Salon of 1817. The image of the child supporting the sage illustrates the permanence of life and the transmission of knowledge. The movement with silk suspended pendulum and outside countwheel striking on a bell the gilt dial with engine turned centre and egg and dart bezel. The movement dated 1820. The base fitted with a 6.5" musical cylinder movement playing four tunes. French dated 1820. 18 inches high by 9 inches wide by 5 inches deep ( 45 cms by 22.5 cms by 12.5 cms) .
