Industrial automaton clock of exceptional quality and finish, antique, French and from the end of the 19th century. Constructed from patinated, gilt and silvered bronze set upon a shaped black marble base. The clock is in the form of a cylindrical steam powered and coal fired boiler. The boiler in gilt bronze with superb detail with hexagonal bolt heads, silvered screws and bronze rivets. Silvered pipe work and patinated bronze hinges, valves, taps and levers. The automaton is in the form of a governor which revolves continuously on the top of the boiler. The 8 day clock is set into the fire box door and the dial is silvered bronze with gilt bronze to the centre with blued steel hands. Above the clock is a further dial in engraved silvered bronze and gilt bronze bezel holding an aneroid barometer. To the left of these dials is an engraved silver plate with a fahrenheit thermometer. French, retailed in England circa 1890. 14 inches high by 6 inches square at base ( 35 cms by 15 cms).
