A fine and unusual French late 19th century desk clock in the form of a field gun, retailed by the famous London firm of Mappin and Webb. Set upon a piece of naturalistically shaped marble the field gun in patinated and gilt bronze is exceptionally well modelled and has fine finish and detail. The clock itself is of 8 day duration and is set into one of the wheels of the field gun. Its dial is gilt bronze but very clever shadowing gives the appearance of spokes in the wheel. The dial is signed Mappin and Webb. There is outstanding detail on the Field Gun, the breech and range wheel in gilt bronze with rivets picked out. France circa 1900.4 inches high by 10 inches long by 4 inches deep ( 10 cms by 25 cms by 10 cms).
