A very fine small antique French bronze of the First Empire period. Entirely of patinated bronze and of a very high quality. The subject is almost certainly of one of Apollo's twelve muses. She sits upon a tasselled platform which is richly decorated on the upper surface with laurel leaves and forget-me not flowers. The Empire stool on which she sits is well finished as are the drapes of her dress which is falling from her shoulder. Her feet, in open toed sandles, are well finished too. Her hair is up and in her right hand is a pencil of some kind, she may have been holding a writing tablet which is now missing. French circa 1815-20. 5.5 inches high by 5 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep ( 13.75 cms by 12.5 cms by 6.25 cms).
