A very fine and unusual Romantic period ormolu mantel clock with remote pendulum in the form of a lyre, the case possibly by Thomire et cie.
First quality casting and gilding, certainly of the quality one would expect from Thomire and very few others.
The rectangular base stands on four bracket feet decorated with flowers and foliage and rises to a moulding of acanthus leaves, rising again to a further moulding of stiff leaf decoration.
Upon this is a profusely decorated dome shaped support with scrolls to the side all decorated with honeysuckle and forget-me-not flowers. Above this is a half moon shaped support that holds the movement and dial which is decorated with stars within wreaths and surrounded by forget-me-not flowers.
On a platform on each side of the dial and movement stand two superb winged ormolu figures, one on each side. The male figures are classically dressed in short tunics, one holding a sword in its sheath and the other holding honeysuckle flowers and laurel leaves.
The two figures support a bud decorated pole and also a floral swag between them. On the top of the pole is a rectangular block on which is a bust of Homer.
The very decorative ormolu pendulum hangs by means of a knife edge suspension from the block on which the bust of Homer sits. The pendulum is powered remotely by a crutch lever attached to the pallets in the clock movement below.
The movement is of 8 day duration and carries the Vincenti mark for the 1834 silver medal and is numbered 6017. The clock strikes the hours and halves on a bell by means of the countwheel striking system.
