A fine English Regency mantel clock signed French, Royal Exchange London for the famous maker James Moore French on the dial and backplate of the movement. Set on ormolu bun feet with an antique vert marble base the clock is set within a gilt bronze housing decorated with books and portraits in high relief of famous classical writers and philosophers. To one side is a magnificent winged male figure leaning against the clock housing representing the Genius of Literature. Outstanding quality English 8 day fusee movement with original chain and most unusual and fine cylindrical pendulum with chamfered decoration.
