A magnificent and original Art Deco Fredinand Preiss bronze and ivory figure of a semi naked young woman looking at her reflection in a hand miror. The model known as . This beautiful sculpture illustrats why Preiss is regarded as a better ivory sculptor even than Chiparus. The carving of the young woman's head, her flowing hair and the superb form and grace of her body. Her head, arms, torso and one leg are carved from ivory which are set into the gilt bronze which retains the original gilding. Set on a circular base signed in the bronze F. Preiss which in turn sits upon a thin cylinder of Green Onyx.
This fabulous Art Deco bronze and ivory scupture is in entirely original condition, with no repairs to the ivory and the original gilt bronze deliberately left dirty. It probably has not been cleaned since new and it seems sensible to allow the new owner to decide whether it should be cleaned or not. Circa 1927.
