Egyptian revival ink stand or desk stand with inkwells, antique. Superb quality English Victorian desk set with Egyptian influence. Of silvered and gilt bronze with a D-ended base with winged Egyptian Sphynx feet. A pen tray to front and back and a fine silvered bronze female mask to each D-end. The inwells set on four silvered ball feet is of sarcophagus form with a superb and finely detailed silvered bronze sphynx to the hinged top. To the front of the sarcophagus is a silvered winged representation of the God Horus. To all the edges of the sarcophagus is a complicated double V pattern while a different pattern but still using the V surrounds the base of the inkstand. On lifting the hinged lid of the sarcophagus two glass inkwells are revealed and a pin tray. Very fine object. English circa 1880. 13.5 inches high by 9 inches wide by 8 inches high ( 33.75 cms by 22.5 cms by 20 cms).
