A fine quality antique musical box in the form of a miniature grand piano. Constructed of gilt bronze and hand painted Austrian enamel and champleve enamel on the two side faces of the piano. The lid of the piano is painted with scenes of courting couples in an idyllic landscape. The lifting lid over the piano keys is painted with lovers toasting each other in a landscape while the surface underneath is painted with two young women. The keys now visible are of enamel. Just below the enamel keys is a freize of gilt bronze mounted red enamel. Wken the lid of the piano is lifted the music box plays and stops when the lid is replaced. The movement is key wound from below. Austria circa 1890.
