Antique desk clock and barometer in form of silvered and engraved medieval helmets with visors.
A very rare pair of antique desk clock and desk barometer as matching medieval knight's helmets with lifting visors. Set on gilt bronze mounted rouge marble shaped bases ( an oval with slight point to the front) the helmets are made of silvered bronze, decorated with heavily engraved gothic style patterns and infilled with black wax and lacquered. The clock with white enamel dial, Roman numerals an blued steel hands. 8 day movement and regulated with a platform lever escapement. The barometer with silvered dial and very fine counterbalanced hand giving readings from 23 inches to 31 inches of barometric pressure. The dial very finely engraved and marked "Compensated" and signed for "Baker" " Optician" 244 High Holborn London and numbered 1173. This superb pair of desk ornaments are English and date from circa 1870-80. 6.5 inches high ( 7.75 inches with visor up) 4.5 inches wide and 5 inches deep ( 16.25 cms ( 19.375) by 11.25 cms by 12.5 cms).
