Antique English Regency sculpted model of a dog carrying a basket of grapes on a naturalistic oval base. The fine dog, a mastiff, has an ormolu collar, very well finished that also serves to hide the thread that holds the dog's articulated jaw. When the thread is released the jaw drops and it is then possible to release the ormolu basket.
This model is known in France and England in various forms usually with a watch movement in the basket. This is the first time that I have seen the model without the watch.
The casting and the ormolu would appear to be English and the size is certainly Imperial rather than metric. All of which together with its origin from a good English home leads me to conclude this is an English Regency piece rather than French Empire.
