A very attractive Charles X antique French Lyre mantel clock in ormolu mounted mahogany.
The ormolu mounts of exceptional quality and with their original fire/mercury gilt finish.
The clock set on a rectangular base sitting upon four ormolu feet of claw on ball design.The arms of the lyre in well figured mahogany and with applied ormolu mounts of laurel leaves with a central pattera of a stylised flower.
The crest of the clock decorated with a floral ormolu mount that incorporates the patterae on the horns of the lyre.
The engine turned gilt bronze dial is surrounded by a fine cast bronze ormolu bezel of stiff leaf and dart design.
The hands are of blued steel and of Breguet form and the hour chapters are Roman.
The large 8 day silk suspension movement strikes the hours and halves using the countwheel system. The silk suspended pendulum bob is one of the finest that I have seen with a superb cast sculpture in ormolu of a beautiful youth wreathed in leaves and berries. Outstanding casting and finishing.
The movement is numbered 5608 B and the case has the number 1296 stamped into it.
