This is a little Italian antique grand Tour bronze of Spinario or the "Thorn Puller". A naked youth sits on a tree stump and pulls a thorn from his foot. Original patination to this attractive bronze with lead weighted base making it ideal as a desk piece such as a paperweight. The original ancient bronze of the Spinario is in the Capitoline Museum in Rome and was made up from fragments of a 4th or 5th century Greek bronze. Italy circa 1880. 4 inches high with 2 inch diameter base ( 10 cms by 5 cms).
