A most unusual antique and dated bronze figural candlestick on a boulle base with original snuffer.
The candlesconce with heavy knurling in concentric circles is set upon and threaded into a deeply gadrooned drip pan. Attached to this is a finely shaped and knurled snuffer.
The drip pan is on the head of a kneeling child, possibly a slave from the remains of the dark patination on the child.
The child kneels upon a stepped base on which is clearly and heavily engraved " HD Wright No 130 London 20th December 1839". I have no idea to what this relates.
The base, probably of rosewood, is inlaid with brass in the manner of Charles Boulle, on all four sides. This boulle is in excellent condition with no brass lifting.
England 1839.
