Antique mantel clock from France in ormolu and jewelled blue porcelain. The clock standing upon both bracket and toupee feet has a breakfront base with applied ormolu floral mounts above the bracket feet and a porcelain plaque between, gilded and jewelled. Around the base is a moulding of acanthus and above the base is a further moulding of a stiff leaf design. The clock dial and movement sit within a rectangular ormolu housing with a porcelain plaque of a courting couple in a neo-classical landscape. The housing rises to a domed pediment upon which stands a fine jewelled and gilded ormolu mounted blue porcelain urn with berry finial and ormolu handles to the side. To each side of the clock housing are jewelled and gilded blue porcelain tapering columns, each column having ormolu capitals and bases and finishing above the pediment in berry capped jewelled and gilded porcelain finials. The dial of blue porcelain, jewelled and gilded with white hour chapters picked out in black Roman numerals. The gilt brass hands of spade form. The movement of 8 day duration, striking the hours and halves upon a cast bell. The timekeeping regulated by a steel suspended pendulum and Brocot adjustment. The ormolu on this clock is in mint original condition and it really is in perfect condition. There is barely a blemish to be seen on any surface of this clock. Both the case and movement is numbered 60779. French circa 1890. 17 inches tall by 12 inches wide by 4.5 inches deep ( 42.5 cms by 30 cms by 11.25 cms)
