A most attractive and unusual object d'art by the famous English maker Weeks of Titchbourne Street, London and the Weeks's Museum. Weeks supplied superbly crafted objects of the best ormolu during the late George III period and the English Regency. In the form of a match striker a beautifully cast & finished figure of Cupid stands upon a Derbyshire black marble base. He has a quiver on his back ( to hold matches), a bow and carries on a tray in his hand a heart as a candle or taper holder. An elaborate ewer and a fine urn complete the piece. The Cupid's satchel is enscribed "Match Box" "Weeks's Rl Museum". All the mercurial ormolu is entirely original. It bears a auction house description taped beneath the base. Circa 1800. 8 inches high by 7 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep
