Rare singing bird box in finely cast silver case with five panels of blue guilloche enamel handpainted with flowers around the base and a large enamel panel to the top with a silver gilt lid with fine painting on enamel of a courting couple. Unusually the operating lever, which is of silver, is placed centrally to the right hand panel. On pressing the operating lever the enamel portrait lid opens and the full
bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak,
the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. The box has an integral buckle key. Swiss circa 1925.
