Antique French double automaton clock with two children fighting over a butterfly & water feature.
Automaton mantel clock, antique and of unusual form with double automaton features. The mantel clock of Charles X period is constructed of patinated bronze and original fire gilt or mercurial ormolu is set on fine bracket feet with ormolu moulding to rectangular base. The edges of the clock are decorated by columns of ormolu in the form of flambeau. The clock is surmounted by figures in ormolu of two cupids who are fighting over a butterfly which is attached to the pendulum and moves two and fro in front of the two figures. A further automaton is in the form of a fountain with a crystal spiral emanating from the mouth of an ormolu mask and plashing into the ormolu basin. The dial is in the form of ormolu clouds with the numbers as Roman numerals and the dial is signed by Leroy a Paris. The clock hands are blued steel and are of Breguet moon form. The movement is of 8 day duration and is bell striking on the hour and half by means of the countwheel striking system and the timekeeping is regualted by a silk suspended pendulum. 19.5 inches high by 7.25 inches wide and 5.25 inches deep ( 48.75 cm by 18 cm by 13 cm). France circa 1825
