A fine and unusual gold, gold piquet and tortoiseshell lancet topped English Edwardian mantel clock. Piquet work of rosettes, floral swags, ribbons and musical trophies. Superb colour tortoiseshell, with gold case surround, diall bezel, hinges and feet. Hallmarked for London 1910 for H. Aumont and Co. White enamel dial indistinctly signed "J C Vickery clockmaker to Their Majesties" with fine Brequet style moon hands in blued steel. Unusually for this period with an English rather than French 8 day timepiece movement with integral buckle key and lever escapement signed St. James London, 17 jewels. Given by the Player tobacco family to a nurse privately employed for many years and then by descent. 5.6 inches high by 3.8 inches wide by 2.4 inches deep (14 cms by 9.5 cms by 6 cms). The base of the clock had been damaged and has now been restored ( see detailed photo).
