A very attractive tortoiseshell and gilt bronze singing bird box by Griesbaum. This box is unusual in that the majority of tortoiseshll spring driven bird boxes that come on to the market are by the French firm of Bontems.On pressing the operating lever the lid opens and the fullbodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving ivory beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. German circa 1920. 4 inches wide by 2.75 inches deep by 1.5 inches high ( 10 cms by 6.875 cms by 3.75 cms).
