A very attractive rectangular antique French frame made of ormolu and Bois Durci which was a new material invented and patented in France and England in 1854 by Francois Charles Lepage and is a mixture of sawdust and albumen. It gives an excellent finish and it was very easy to impress designs on it.
This frame has lovely floral designs to the four corners on a lined background and a very good ormolu bezel with original fire gilding and decorated with palmettes.
France circa 1860.
