An unusual and fine quality ormolu mantel clock of small size, on a two tune musical base and under a glass dome.
The clock on a rectangular ormolu base is in the form of a chariot being pulled by a swan. A cupid is driving the chariot and the dial of the clock forms the wheel of the clock. Very well cast and superb original fire gilt mercury gilding ( ormolu) through out.
The dial is of convex enamel on copper and the movement is a front key winding verge escapement and fusee driven, of 30 hour duration.
The musical base playing two traditional airs, pull string tabataire wind, section comb on plain brass bedplate, the oval form base with mahogany veneer, stop/start and change/repeat controls with inset and inscribed plaque to centre front.
Glass dome in perfect condition.
France circa 1815-20.
