A Griesbaum singing bird box in the form of a book. Of gilt bronze ( with original gilding) and decorated on the top, bottom and spine with foliage in bold relief with some applied foliage in which are set turquoise type jewelling. The front and sides of the book are decorated in a form that shows the pages of the book. The front cover has a lid of the bird box decorated in enamel in the form of painted flowers.
The box is key wound from below and the box is operated by pulling a lever on the left hand side.
When the lever is activated the lid opens and the fullbodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers.
