Singing bird box in silver and enamelling of very unusual form by the firm of Griesbaum.
The form of the bird is of a book and the silver case ( hallmarked) has been enamelled to look like ivory with Japanese style inlay into it. The sides of the book are left in silver to look like the pages of a book. It has a similar strap to hold it closed. When the top of the book is lifted the bird an be seen set within a rococco style silver page.
The bird is activated by pulling on the lever to the left of the box and then when this is pulled the fullbodied bird pops upt & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance the bird drops back down.
