Singing bird box in silver and enamelling of very unusual form by the firm of Griesbaum. The form of the bird is of a book and the silver case ( hallmarked) has been enamelled to look like ivory with Japanese style inlay into it. The sides of the book are left in silver to look like the pages of a book. It has a similar strap to hold it closed. When the top of the book is lifted the bird an be seen set within a rococco style silver page. The bird is activated by pulling on the lever to the left of the box and then when this is pulled the fullbodied bird pops upt & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance the bird drops back down. Germany circa 1930. 4.25 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep and 1.75 inches high ( 11 cms by 8.75 cms by 4.375 cm).
