Silver singing bird box by Griesbaum. This is an early box by this firm with very fine casting of the silver and retaining the silver gilt finish inside. This is not one of the many later copies that are now on the market. A most attractive and well finished case decorated on all sides and the top. The lid and the cover decorated with putti playing musical instruments within a floral design in high relief. The sides of the case are similarly decorated. The push button to activate the box is in the form of the Griesbaum bird. On pressing the operating lever the lid opens and the fullbodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving ivory beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. 4.25 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep and 1.75 inches high ( 11 cms by 8.75 cms by 4.375 cm).
