French Empire antique miniature musical mantel clock of dog pulling a chariot.
Antique French Empire fire or mercury gilt ormolu mantel clock with a two tune musical base. This fine little clock set on four toupee feet under a shaped ovl base. The front of the base with an applied ormolu mount of Anthemion. The clockwork is set in the wheel of a chariot drawn by a dog in traces. On the top of the chariot is a figure of Cupid driving the dog. The traces are fed through a mask of a dog on the front of the chariot. Super original ormolu with both matt and burnished finishes. The dial in the wheel of the chariot has a fine ormolu bezel ( rim) and the dial is of white enamel and has gilt hands. The movement is front key wind and the movement is an early 19th century fusee watch movement by Michael Hurst of London. The clock sits upon an oval mahogany base in which is an early musical movement with sectional comb. It plays two tunes and is pull wound. The clock sits under a glass dome. French circa 1810. 8 inches high by 6 inches wide and 3 inches deep ( 20 cms by 15 cms by 7.5 cms).
