Miniature French Empire antique ormolu mantel clock of bacchante
A good early version of the French Empire Bacchanalian dancing figure carrying a watch movement in his basket. Standing on classic and very well cast toupee feet rising to an oval base with applied ormolu mountsof a basket of fruit and flowersattached to a thyrsus draped with vine leaves and grapes. The very well cast figure of the dancing Bacchanalian man with one foot raised, a lion's pelt over his shoulder, vine leaves and grapes in his hair and with a bunch of grapes in one hand and a thyrsus over his shoulder. The thyrsus holds, by its handle, a beautifully cast basket of fruit and flowers. The basket holds the watch movement and the dial which is of convex white enamel with blued steel hands. The front winding movement is French, chain driven verge and of 30 hour duration. French circa 1805. 11 inches high by 5 inches wide by 3.25 inches deep ( 27.5 cms by 12.5 cms by 8 cms).
