Antique music box in tortoiseshell, gold and hand painted enamel with its original leather and silk lined travelling box. A lovely tortoiseshell box with gold mounts. To the top a quite lovely hand painted enamel scene entitled " Les Cinq sens" or in English "The Five Senses" which you can see being played out in the scene. The enamel is covered by the original domed glass. The musical movement is of excellent quality and is signed by F. Rochat and exhibits several features of this firm, such as the out of line comb screws and the pin method of fine tuning ( seen as small circles by the comb screws. This lovely and very rare box plays two different airs and the tune changer is on the right and the start button on the left. 2nd quarter of the 19th century. 3.5 inches wide by 2.25 inches deep and 1.125 inches high ( 8.75 cms by 5.625 cms by 2.25 cm).
