French antique inkwell or ecrier and watchstand with figure of Chronos and Cupid crossing the Styx.
Antique French ormolu and patinated bronze inkstand and watchstand. Well cast and designed ecrier in patinated bronze of inkwell, sander and pin tray with a base of ormolu with a moulding of leaf and dart decoration. The lid of the ecrier in patinated bronze with an ormolu boat with the prow in the form of a swan in full flight. In the prow is the figure of a winged Cupid with a pole in his hand. In the stern sits the figure of Chronos. To the centre of the boat is a mast and beautifully decorated sail which has four watch holders attached to it. Original ormolu and patination to the bronze. France circa 1815-20. 9 inches high by 6.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep ( 22.5 cms by 16.25 cms by 8.75 cms).
