Antique French Empire mantel clock in ormolu of Cupid holding a horse.
A fine late French Empire or Charles X ormolu mantel clock. A quite unusual subject of Cupid leading a stallion on a bridle. Superb condition to the original mercury or fire gilt ormolu. The cupid strides along with his bow in his hand and the other leading the rearing stallion. The rectangular base with bracket feet, the spandrel corners around the gilt bronze dial with floral decoration. The dial surrounded with a bezel of flowers and acanthus. To each end side a fine ormolu applied mount of crossed Cupid trophies of bow, quiver and torch of everlasting love all surrounded by a wreath of roses and vine. The hands of Breguet moon form and of blued steel. The eight day movement regulated by a silk suspension is timepiece only. France circa 1820 18 inches high by 9 inches wide by 5 inches deep ( 45 cms by 22.5 cms by 12.5 cms).
