Antique French gilt and silvered bronze clock set with unusual panels.
Antique French clock set in gilt bronze and unusually, also silvered bronze. The set consisting of clock and two good sized urn sidepieces. The clock having a domed top with an urn topped with a pineapple finial. Four further finials decorate the corners. Below the dial is a fine panel in two coloured gilding and silvered bronze of a court scene of the Middle Ages. A fine moulding surrounds the base and has silvered and gilt bronze decoration of floral decoration. The clock stands upon four decorative bun feet. The dial with blued steel hands has gothic style numerals and a gothic tracery centre in gilt bronze. The movement is of 8 day duration and strikes the hours and halves upon a gong. It is a Japy Freres movement numbered 3319 with original numbered pendulum. The very attractive urns with shaped base and with side handles is beautifully decorated with contrasting silvered and gilt bronze. Each urn has a plaque to the front in gilt and silvered bronze, one appears to show the balcony scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet although this may be a co-incidence. The other plaque shows three figures in a classical scene. The standing figure with armour and wearing a turban, but with a European straight sword. French circa 1880. The clock 17.5 inches high by 7.25 inches wide by 5.5 inches deep ( 43.75 cms by 18.2 cms by 13.75 cms). Urns 10.5 inches high by 4.5 inches wide by 3.5 deep ( 26.25 cms by 11.25 cms by 8.75 cms)
