A most attractive ormolu miniature mantel clock of the early English Regency or french Directoire/Empire period celebrating astronomy.
The canted corner case, quite typical of the Directoire and early Empire period in France and closely followed in England. Set upon ormolu toupee feet the base sports a very fine applied mount of a table globe with scroll and palm fronds and laurel boughs. To the left hand side of the clock is a stand upon which is a globe, a young man in Chinon is reading a book and holding a scroll while to the top of the clock is an oil lamp and some books.
The white convex enamel dial is surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel and the time is indicated by Breguet moon form blued steel hands.
The movement is a 30 hour fusee and chain movement, unsigned but numbered 231.
The ormolu is original and in excellent original condition.
