Leotard Antique Sand Toy in original glazed box. The intricate Leotard Acrobat was produced during the 1890s by Brown, Blondin and Company of London, England. A multi jointed acrobat dressed as a gentleman performs amazing acrobatic tricks while performing from a central peg. The power used is sand falling on a kind of water wheel but using sand. By rotating the box two complete turns to the right sand fills a resevoir in the top right hand side of the box. Rather like an egg timer the sand falls onto the wheel and drives a series of gears by means of which the acrobat performs his tricks. He performs for several minutes for each rotation. It is an amazing toy. With original label. England circa 1890. Height 10 inches by 8 inches by 4 inches (25 cms by 20 cms by 10 cms).
