Leotard Antique Sand Toy in original glazed box. The intricate Leotard Acrobat was produced during the 1890s by Brown, Blondin and Company of London, England.
A multi jointed acrobat dressed as a gentleman performs amazing acrobatic tricks while performing from a central peg. The power used is sand falling on a kind of water wheel but using sand. By rotating the box two complete turns to the right sand fills a resevoir in the top right hand side of the box. Rather like an egg timer the sand falls onto the wheel and drives a series of gears by means of which the acrobat performs his tricks.
He performs for several minutes for each rotation.
It is an amazing toy.
