A fine and large antique pair of figures of a Black man and a Native American depicting the continents of Africa and America.
The African wearing finely decorated cloth over his head and down to the ground, barefoot but holding a broken chain ( presumably a reference to the end of slavery) in his hand.
The Native American with his arm raised in greeting with a knife in his belt, wearing fine cloth and ankle boots.
The figures, on identical bases decorated with acanthus and on further original wooden bases, are of bronzed spelter.
Both figures are exceptionally well finished.
French circa 1880.
