Antique French Empire clock of cupid playing harp signed Ledure bronzier & Thomas hr.
French Empire ormolu mantel clock with original base and glass dome. Unusualy this fine quality mantel clock has been signed on the white enamel dial by both the bronzier and the clockmaker. The clock illustrates the arts. To the left of the clock a fine winged Cupid plays the lyre while to the right a flaming torchere holds another lyre and the top of the case are books and a wreath. Below the dial can be found the names of Homer and Virgil surrounded by a wreath and by acanthus and Anthemion. Further applied mounts of swans resting on floral swags are to the left and right of the case front. All the mounts, the mouldings and the feet are all very well cast and gilded. The white convex enamel dial is signed by "Ledure Bronzier a Paris", known to have been working at Rue Neuve des Petits Champs from 1812 and also by the clockmaker Thomas and Signed "Thomas Hr" who was working at Rue de Bucy from 1806. The dial is surrounded by a fine bezel and has blued steel Breguet style moon hands. The movement is an 8 day silk suspension regulated movement striking the hours and halves on a bell. France circa 1812. Height 12. 5 inches by 11 inches wide and 3 inches deep ( 31.25 cms by 28.75 cms by 7.5 cms), without base and dome.
