Very large antique French porcelain and gilt bronze mantel clock
This clock is of very high quality and in very original condition with all porcelain elements in undamaged and unrestored condition. The ormolu though black when the clock was bought has turned out to be of outstanding quality and in almost mint original condition.
The case with both matt and burnished ormolu has a d-ended base inset with 5 porcelain panels two hand painted columns with porcelain finials.
Set upon a dome with two side panels and a central oval of porcelain is a fine two part porcelain and ormolu urn with ormolu bud finial.
Very unusually there are three charming hand painted and jewelled porcelain vignettes of children playing.
1/. The dial shows two children playing with wooden tops.
2/. The plaque below the dial shows three children playing leap frog.
3/. The third panel has one child reading a book while another aims a kick to another child's backside.
There are 15 panels, finials and columns of perfect, hand painted porcelain on the clock.
The dial has gilt bronze spade hands and the movement is an 8 day steel suspended pendulum regulated movement striking the hours and halves on a bell.
France circa 1870-80.
The movement and the panels are all marked for Charpentier a Paris.
