A very fine French Directoire mantel clock of pillar form. Superb quality and condition of the original ormolu. Rectangular base with fine leaf moulding. Four finely wrought reeded pillars on rectangular bases and with fine capitals. Domed top to case decorated with moulding to edge of leaf and dart. Superb ormolu bezel with fringed ormolu curtain below.
Fine convex white enamel dial with Roman hour chapters and Arabic minute numerals at the quarter markers. Finely finished cast ormolu hands.
Signed to the dial above 6 o'clock "Coeur et Fils a Paris", an old family of clockmakers and known to have been working at Rue de la Verrerie from 1781 and still there in 1810.
8 day bell striking movement with silk suspension and sunburst pendulum.
This clock is dated within the movement 1804.
