Beautiful antique French Directoire period Egyptian or Gout d'Egypt ormolu and patinated bronze mantel clock. Superb quality and condition of the entirely original fire gilt ormolu. Egyptian headed, patinated bronze terms with fine applied ormolu mounts, hold up the convex enamel dial and 8 day bell striking movement with silk suspension. The fine white enamel dial surrounded by fine cast ormolu bezel, with roman numerals and blued steel hands of Breguet moon form. The silk suspension bell striking movement sounding the hours and halves by means of a countwheel. Dated on the springs 1795. Signed 'Le Clerc a Bruxells' on the dial, who Baillie has in Paris in 1786 and Brussels by the early 19th century France 1795 retailed in Belgium 34 and a half cm High by 23cm in length and 11cm in depth
