Antique French Greek Revolution mantel clock of Marmaluke on horse.

Antique French Greek Revolution mantel clock of Marmaluke on horse.
Antique Greek revolution mantle clock in ormolu and patinated and silvered bronze of a Turkish ( Marmaluke) mounted soldier on a rearing stallion. Superb subject and extremely liveley in its composition. The head of the warrior is certainly taken from life and he is fitted out in detail with sword and scabbard, pair of pistols and a heavy musket on his back. The stallion is in silvered bronze but all the harness is parcel gilt. The horse is rearing upon a naturalistic rocky mount with ormoilu flowers. The clock is set on an ormolu rectangular base with stiff leaf moulding. The dial is of gilt bronze and surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel. The hands are of blued steel and of Breguet style moon form. The movement is of 8 day duration , regulated by a silk suspended pendulum and the clock strikes the hours and halves on a bell. France circa 1827. 18 inches high by 12 inches wide by 5.25 inches deep ( 45 cms by 30 cms by 13 cms). The inspiration for this clock is undoubtably from the paintings of Carle Vernet an early war artist, if you like, who accompanied Napoleon throughout his middle eastern campaign and afterwards.
